Helen E. Johnson
Stockton - Helen E. Johnson, 96, of Stockton, homemaker and musician, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at Morgan Memorial Home in Stockton.
Daughter of Myron & Maude (Solt) Lawfer, she was born Jan. 22, 1900, in the community of Willow in rural Stockton. She and Lauren Johnson were married June 24, 1920, in Freeport. He died June 9, 1961.
A member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton, she served as pianist and organist of the church for many years.
In addition to music, she also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge.
She was a 76-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had previously held a membership in Stockton Women's Club.
Surviving family members include two sons, a daughter, 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Paul Johnson; a grandson, Robert L. Johnson; and a brother, Merle Lawfer.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton with the Rev. Mary Willis Mayes officiating. Private burial will be in Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial fund has been established for Wesley United Methodist Church and Morgan Memorial Home.
