Jo Daviess County
Mrs. Florence Johnson
The subject of this sketch was a daughter of Washington and Leah Fitzsimmons and was born in the town of Berreman, Jo Daviess county, May 13, 1866, and departed this life March 3, 1891, age 24 years, 7 months and 17 days. Florence was a lady of a bright, genial disposition, always looking on the bright side of everything, and with a kind word for every one she met. Three years ago she was united in marriage to Noble Johnson. One bright little girl, now two years old, blessed their union. About two years ago Florence had a severe attack of lung fever. After recovering, the most insiduous of all diseases, that of consumption, fastened its fatal grip upon her. All that friends and physicians could do was done but she continued to grow weaker each day. About three months ago Mr. Johnson thought a change in climate might be beneficial and so took her to Pueblo, Col., and at which place they remained about two months. With the counsel and treatment of three of Pueblo's most eminent physicians she at first rallied, but in a short time the hopes of recovery were short time the hopes of recovery were all blasted and she daily grew weaker, when they decided to return home. Samuel H. Johnson, father of Noble, went out to assist in bringing Mrs. Johnson home. They arrived at her parental home the 30th of last month. She lingered but six days after her arrival home, when her spirit took its flight to the God who gave it.**
