Marcella Bowen, 87, of Salamanca, New York died Saturday (December 27, 2008) at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born September 22, 1921 in Versailles, New York she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Mary Halftown Johnson.

She was married to Mr. Leslie Bowen who predeceased her in November of 1980.

She was employed as a dispatcher for the Seneca Nation prior to her retirement. She had previously been self employed as a cleaner

Mrs Bowen was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, Beaver clan, Red House Memorial Chapel, life member of the ladies auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars John Ahrens Post #5296, past member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, AIRVFD.

She was a master cornhusk doll maker, taught beadworking, and was a Buffalo Bills, New York Yankee and dirt car racing fan.

In her youth Mrs. Bowen was a former all star softball player.

Surviving are one son Winfield (Aline) Bowen, Salamanca, New York, seven grandchildren, one sister Twyla Kenyon, Jimersontown, New York, one brother Seth Halftown, Jimersontown. New York, several nieces and nephews.

A son, DuWayne? "Duece" Bowen, predeceased Mrs. Bowen.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10:00 AM followed by services in the Red House Chapel, Jimersontown, New York at 10:45 AM

Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery, Jimersontown, New York
