Jessie Mae (Johnson) Green was born on August 30, 1938 to Hayes and Lillie Mae Johnson Sr. in Juliette, Georgia. She was the eldest of their six children.

Jessie attended Woodbury High School in Woodbury, New Jersey and graduated in 1957. While at high school she met Robert Green, her soul mate. They married on June 6, 1959 and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage.

She retired from CBS Records and later worked at Tri-County Headstart for a number of years. Jessie was an active member of Bethel AME Church of Woodbury. She faithfully served on the choir, was an attentive usher, and served numerous times in the kitchen.

Jessie was predeceased by one sister, Marlene Parker. Cherishing her memory are: her loving husband of over 50 years, Robert Green Sr., her parents, Hayes and Lillie Mae Johnson Sr., her children, Valerie Lathan (Harold Jr.), Robert Green Jr. (Crystal), Kimberly Wellons (Pompey), Lisa Green, and Rodney Green (India), two brothers Hayes Johnson Jr. (Patricia) and Howard Johnson Sr. (Mary), two sisters Eunice Allen (George) and Carneitha Johnson and eight grandchildren Marquis, Vanessa, Harold III (Tre'), Kayla, Janelle, Robert III, Dominique, and Alyssa, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and a host of friends.

Praise God, Jessie is at peace!

Friends may call at Bethel AME Church, 32 Courtland Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096 on Saturday, January 23 from 8-10 for the viewing and funeral services at 10 a.m. Burial services will be held at the Gates of Heaven, Mt. Royal, NJ. In remembrance of Jessie Green, donations may be made to: ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
