Julia Mae Johnson Burgess, age 84, passed away peacefully Monday, August 18, 2014. Born in Halifax County on November 3, 1929, she is the daughter of Ralph Lewis Johnson and Minnie Mae Peace Johnson. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Robert Thomas (“RT”) Burgess, Jr. Julia was a longtime cafeteria employee of twenty-five years with the Halifax Academy School, known for her homemade biscuits. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Jeanean Mitchell and husband, Sele of Snow Hill, NC; two sons, Ralph Burgess and wife, Cindy of Ahoskie, NC and Jimmy Burgess of Richmond, VA.; grandchildren, Stacey Trivett, Jamie Burgess, Jason Mitchell, April Mitchell and Hunter Burgess; six great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Keeter of Tarboro, NC and brother, Ralph Johnson and wife, Diane of Jamesville, NC. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A graveside service to remember Julia will be held at 2:30pm Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Elmwood Cemetery, Enfield, NC with Reverend Ron Patton officiating. Flowers will be accepted and memorial contributions can be made to Marlboro Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, Post Office Box 694, Farmville, NC 27828.
