Services for Morris E. Johnson of Greenwood were at 2 p.m. today at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Golden Age Nursing Home.
Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 30, 1930 to Sylvester and Clemise (Cothran) Johnson in Morgan City. He was raised in Morgan City and a graduate of Morgan City High School. He served as a Constable for Beat 5 and served as a Leflore County deputy sheriff for more than 20 years. He also farmed in the Morgan City area. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Itta Bena.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Davis Johnson.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne and Ricky Williams of Morgan City and Tissie and Sonny Brock of Lexington; a sister and brother-in-law Kathryn and Harold Bowen of Greenwood; and four grandchildren, Lee Hodges of Greenwood, Andrew Williams of Jackson, Max Brock of Meridian and his wife, Lauren, and Suzanne Lawshe of Madison and her husband, Michael.
Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. today. The Rev. Higdon Herrington officiated at the services.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, Lee Hodges, Andrew Williams, Michael Lawshe, Max Brock, John Doty Porter, Doty Porter, Mac McNeer and Bill Burrus. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elks Lodge.
Burial was in Itta Bena Cemetery.
