Born in Shreveport on October 27, 1912, Evelyn passed from this life on Saturday August 27, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Black; her parents, Rosa and Karl Johnson; and her brothers, Carl and Herbert Johnson.
She is survived by two sons, Victor Black of Shreveport, LA and Jim Black and wife Carolyn of Garland, TX; one sister, Bernice Harrison of Shreveport, five grandchildren, Monte Black of Bossier City, LA, Candi Black of Shreveport, LA, Brandy Black of Shreveport, LA, Shannon Bueter of Garland, TX, Nicole Knox of Garland, TX; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and nieces and nephews.
Evelyn grew up on her parents farm which is now the corner of Hollywood Ave. and Hearne Ave. in Shreveport. She was a 1931 graduate of Fair Park High School and a life long member of Ingleside Baptist Church. In 1934 she married her best friend and love of her life, Carl. They both loved fishing but their greatest pleasure was being with each other. She retired from the V.A. Hospital in Shreveport where she worked from 1946 to 1982.
Mama Black, Aunt Evelyn will be missed by all who knew her as she provided much fun and laughter for all, especially her family.
