EMMA ELIZABETH was the daughter of William Farris and Lou Ann "Lou" Glover Johnson of Carter County, Kentucky. She was one of eight children and was born on September 15, 1870.

Emma was united in marriage with William Jerry Ervin on April 26, 1891 in Carter County, witnessed by George and Belle Shay. William Jerry was the son of Silas Robie and Sarah Thompson Ervin, they lived at Upper Tygart in Carter County, Kentucky.

Emma & Jerry were blessed with ten known children:

Grover Cleveland Ervin 1892 – 1943 (Had four babies to die soon after birth)
Charlie Clemmon Ervin 1894 – 1962 (Was a veteran of WWI)
Robie Silas Ervin 1896 – 1980 (Father of Virginia Ruth Ervin Lewis)
William Owen "Willie" Ervin 1899 – 1919 (Died at age 20 of cancer)
Cecil Ervin 1901 – 1997 (My grandfather) (Father of ten children)
Ethel Belle Ervin Walters 1903 – 1973
Russell H. "Russ" Ervin 1906 – 1981 (Father of six children)
Robert Ezekial "Bob" Ervin 1910 – 1991 (Lived in Crestline, Ohio)
Lucy Easter Ervin Carrington 1912 – 1990 (Married Fred Carrington)
Henry "Hen" Ervin 1915-2001 (Lived at Garrison, Lewis County, Kentucky)

Emma was a homemaker, she enjoyed gardening and making quilts. She died at the home of her son Robie, she fell and broke her hip and died of complications of pneumonia. She had been widowed for over 30 years.

Funeral services were held at the Red Brush Church, near Garrison with the Rev. Johnnie Sparks, burial followed at the Bowen Chapel Cemetery at Olive Hill, Carter County, Kentucky.
