Miss Mabel Johnson, 78, died yesterday afternoon in a local hospital after a period of failing health. She was born Feb. 26, 1889, in Medford, Ore., daughter of a pioneer Pacific Grove family. Her father, Joseph Johnson, was a superintendent with the Pacific Improvement Co.
Miss Johnson was graduated from Pacific Grove High School and later studied cosmetology in San Francisco, making her home in that city for 40 years. Following her retirement in 1955, she returned to Pacific Grove to live with a sister, Miss Carrie Johnson, at 112 Fountain St.
She was a member of Cypress Rebekah Lodge No. 75, of Pacific Grove, and for seven years served as the lodge musician. In addition to Miss Carrie Johnson, she leaves another sister, Mrs. Esther Zumwalt of Pacific Grove. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Paul Funeral Chapel, with Cypress Rebekah Lodge No. 75 officiating. Private burial will take place in El Carmelo Cemetery. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Pall bearers will be: Russell Giles, James Willey, Harry Reed, Ray Lugo, Roger Lee, Gene Green and Clayton Freeman
