Doris Marie Genest Johnson (1926 - 2012)
Doris Marie Genest Johnson, 85, went peacefully to eternity Saturday, May 26, 2012. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Doris was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Ocean City, N.J., to Joseph and Marie Genest. She met her devoted husband, Elmer Johnson, as a young girl of 16 in Washington, D.C., when he was serving in the Army. They spent 68 1/2 years together in marriage and were soul mates. Doris was known to be a vibrant women in her community of Grapevine with great tenacity in all tasks. She was a seamstress extraordinaire and engaged professionally and socially with the Grapevine Sewing Center and its colleagues. Doris was known for her embroidery work of quilts, colorful pillows, artwork and cloths, and she could design marvelous work from pieces of fabric. She possessed a strong faith that manifested her life. Doris was an avid sports enthusiast, whether it was the Rangers, Dallas Cowboys or Mavericks; she followed their every play and could call it out. The family expresses deep gratitude to all her physicians, especially Dr. Madhu Kollipara, her pulmonologist and her friend. The family is most thankful to God for all the compassionate nurses and the entire staff at Ethicus LTAC, Grapevine, where she was cared for tenderly and professionally until her last breath.
