Son of Captain John Johnson (circa 1590 - 30 September 1659) and Mary (Heath) Johnson who arrived in Massachusetts as part of Governor Winthrop's fleet on 22 June 1630.
Brother of Humphrey, Mary, Elizabeth, and Sarah Johnson.
Husband of Elizabeth (Porter) Johnson. They married 20 January 1636/1637 in Roxbury, Suffolk, MA.
Father of Elizabeth, John, Isaac Jr., Nathaniel, and Mary Johnson.
Grandfather and great-grandfather.
Johnson was appointed captain of the Ancient and Honourable Artillery Company in 1667. During King Philip's War (1675-1676), he led the Roxbury Company in the Narrangansett Expedition. He was killed in action at the head of his company at the battle known as the "Great Swamp Fight."
