Betty Johnson was surrounded by family as she died peacefully on September 10, 2009, in her home at The Lorelton in Wilmington, DE after a brief struggle with cancer.
Born on August 20, 1923 in Wilmington, she lived her whole life in Delaware. She graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and went to work at the DuPont Company where she retired after 35 years of dedicated service. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), attended Newark Baptist Church, and was a former member of Second Baptist Church (Silverside Baptist).
Betty is survived by her loving son Paul Johnson and his wife Lucinda of Hockessin, DE, and her loving daughter Elizabeth Roberts and her husband Donald of Lawrenceville, GA. She leaves behind a cherished granddaughter Kathleen McCann and her husband Andrew of Knoxville, TN, and four great-grandchildren: Rebecca Howard, Victoria Howard, David McCann and Ian McCann. She is also survived by her seven sisters: Ruth Smith, Dorothy Mearns, Gene Singley, Shirley Morgan, Evelyn Worley, Doris Hanby, Marjorie Marsh; and two brothers-in-law: George Singley and John Worley. Many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends will also remember her fondly.
A visitation will begin at 12 noon, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 noon, on Tuesday, September 15, at the Strano & Feeley Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE, followed by a graveside interment at Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd.
