Stanley was serving in the Marines Reserve before going into active duty.
When he arrived in Vietnam, Stanley was assigned to HMM-364, MAG-36, 1st Marine Air Wing. During an ARVN Troop lift off the helicopter UH-34D #148762 that he was a co-pilot of received hostile automatic weapons fire. The pilots lost control of the aircraft which crashed and burned upon impact with the ground. There were no survivors and all the bodies were not recovered.
Lt Johnson was not married and served his country for 4 years.
Tour of duty unknown
Lt Johnson was declared Missing In Action 3 December 1965 and his remains were recovered and identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency 25 August 2015.
Survived by his wife, Anne Johnson and his parents, Harry E and Virginia Margaret Schley Johnson.
Remains recovered and buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
