Arvilla Cywinski, of River Road, Sheatown section of Newport Township, passed away Monday morning, April 27, 2009, at her home.
Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late James and Edith John.
She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and resided in the area her entire life.
On November 29, 1947, she married Bernard R. Cywinski and they moved to Sheatown in the early 1950s.
Early in life she was employed as a telephone operator by Bell Telephone Company, Nanticoke, before raising her children.
She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church, Nanticoke. Her main interest in life was her home and family, and she enjoyed needlecraft and her animals.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William T. John.
Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Bernard R. Cywinski; daughters Susanne Czapla and her husband, Frank, Alden; Karen Kutera and her husband, Chet, Hunlock Creek; and Debbie Toporcer and her husband, Ken, Hunlock Creek; grandchildren Christopher Czapla and his wife, Samantha; Nicole Brown and her husband, Allen; and Dreena and Bliss Toporcer; great-grandchildren Collin, Owen and Allison Brown, Avery and Mason Czapla and Jocelynn Toporcer.
A private graveside service will be held at Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township, with the Rev. Richard R. Hawley officiating. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke.

Obituary of Arvilla's brother William follows:
Services will be Thursday for William John, a former Watsonville resident who died Aug. 29. He was 91.
He had lived in various care facilities in the San Jose area for the past six years. Before that, he and his wife, Betty, were residents of Watsonville.
Born in Penygraig, South Wales, Mr. John emigrated to the United States with his family in 1923, crossing the Atlantic on the ship Aquitania and arriving at the Port of New York.
He received his accounting degree from Wilkes-Barre Business College in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was a stenographer and was honorably discharged.
Afterward, he moved to Los Angeles and worked for various businesses as an accounting clerk and administrator.
He married in 1947. He and his wife moved to the Watsonville area in 1981 to be closer to her father, who lived in Santa Cruz.
Mr. John enjoyed the opera and classical music. His family said he had a wonderful baritone voice.
He is survived by his sister, Arvilla Cywinski of Nanticote [sic], Pa.
His wife, Elizabeth John, died previously.
A memorial service honoring Mr. and Mrs. John will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.
A private committal at sea will take place later.
