DeWITT, Iowa ---- Maybelle C. Johanssen, a resident of DeWitt, formerly of Bettendorf, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at DeWitt Community Hospital. A prayer service will be held 11:30 a.m. Sunday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Private interment will be in Davenport Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. Maybelle Remer was born May 26, 1909, in Davenport, the daughter of Joseph T. and Christine (Zarndt) Remer. She married Howard W. Johannsen on May 16, 1959, in Davenport. He preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1977. Maybelle was employed as a sales associate and personal buyer at the former Petersen Harned-Von Maur Store in downtown Davenport for 17 years, retiring in 1960. In earlier years, she had been employed as an elevator operator at the 1st National Bank Building in Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Marks Lutheran Church, Davenport, where she was a member, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Those left to honor her memory include her niece, Marilyn Paulsen, and her husband, Robert, DeWitt; her nephews, Arthur Remer, Mount Joy, and James Remer, and his wife, Lois, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; her step-grandsons, Jeffrey Johannsen, Des Moines, and Kirk Johannsen, of Colorado; and her special friend, Janice Johnson, Lamoni. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur H. Remer; her nephew, Kenneth Remer; her stepson, Howard Johannsen Jr.; and her step-brother, William Bender.
