Philip Joseph Joerdens Jr., 90, of Fairhaven in Sykesville, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Fairhaven.

Born June 28, 1919, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Philip J. Sr. and Hilda Bittorf Joerdens.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Allen, who he married in 1942 and who died in May 2009.

He attended the McDonogh School, Baltimore City College and graduated from Mount Vernon School of Law (now part of the University of Baltimore). He was a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as both a B-29 navigator and instructor. After the war, he worked as a title attorney for Title Guarantee Company on St. Paul Street in Baltimore, rising to vice president and head of its national department until his retirement in 1984. He spent 15 years of his retirement volunteering for Traveler's Aid and Information at BWI-Marshall Airport. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Baltimore for many years and was most recently a member at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City. He resided for the last six years at Fairhaven Retirement Community.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Michael Vanous, of Ellicott City; son and daughter-in-law Philip Joseph III and Marjorie Joerdens, of Ellicott City; and grandchildren Lindsay Vanous, of Westminster, Kelby Hodge and husband Jeffrey, of York, Pa., Ashley L. Joerdens, of Elkridge, 2nd Lt. USAF Philip J. "Kip" Joerdens IV, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Eric G. Joerdens, of College Park.

Interment be follow at Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore.
