STEELE Virginia F. DeVore, 82, Steele, died Jan. 15, 2012, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Burial will be held before the memorial service at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the Dawson Cemetery, followed by a memorial services held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the Steele United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thom Bowsher officiating.

Virginia Faith was born Dec. 6, 1929, on the family farm north of Jamestown, the daughter of Samuel and Bertha (Birks) Jeske. She attended country school until eighth-grade in Bloom Township and four years of high school in Jamestown. Virginia went on to Jamestown College and Valley City State Teachers College, where she received her elementary teaching certificate. She taught school in Montpelier, Marion, and Dawson.

Virginia married Elwood DeVore in Jamestown on June 16, 1951. They made their home on the family farm south of Dawson, where they raised cattle and sheep.

Virginia enjoyed the outdoors, work in their beautiful yard, watching the wildlife, hunting and traveling. She enjoyed oil and acrylic painting of nature and wildlife. She won many awards at art shows in Bismarck, Jamestown and Valley City, and had several paintings chosen by the governor's wife to hang in the Governor's Mansion.

She was a member of the Steele United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and leading U.M.W.

Virginia is survived by her three sons, Doug, Dave and Warren; four grandchildren, Nicole Kapp, Ginger Reis, and Tyler and Jason DeVore; and three great-grandchildren, Austin and Ashton Kapp and Mason DeVore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood in October 2009; her parents; her sisters, Ester Victor and Devine Nannenga; and one brother, Mars Jeske.
