TRAIN HITS CAR, MOTHER OF 12 KILLED
A mother of 12 children, on her way by car to shop for groceries, was killed Wednesday at Cedar Grove in what Sheboygan County authorities said was an apparent attempt to beat a train over a crossing.
Mrs. Arlene Jentsch, 44, Route 1 Cedar Grove met instant death when the auto was struck broadside by the engine of the North Western Railway freight train.
Deputies said wig-wag warning signals were in operation as Mrs. Jentsch and the train approached the Highway 32 crossing. Shortly before the accident the woman had given several of her children a ride to school. Nine of the children live at home and a son, Gerhart Jr. is station with the Navy in Kodiak, Alaska. Mrs. Jentsch's husband was working at a shoe factory in nearby Belgium at the time.
