DANVILLE - Edna Virginia Jennings Billings, 86, of 135 Kingston Road, died Thursday, August 21, 2008, after valiantly living with ovarian cancer for the past ten years. Mrs. Billings was born in Grayson County, Virginia, on February 11, 1922.
She moved to Danville in 1946 and worked at Dan River Mills for several years prior to completing the Licensed Practical Nurse program at the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She was employed as an LPN at Danville Regional Medical Center in 1958. The majority of her career was in the Labor and Delivery department until her retirement in 1988. She is still remembered for her compassionate commitment to service by patients, co-workers and medical staff.
Mrs. Billings was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Danville Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1948. She was an active member of the DRMC Retirees Club and a supporter of the Danville Cancer Association.
On August 9, 1943, she married Robert Emmett Billings, who predeceased her on July 28, 1989. She was the last surviving child of the late Mintie and Kemper Jennings and was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters, all from Grayson County.
