ECKEN - Mary Geraldine, 78, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Hosparus Inpatient unit in Norton Pavilion with loving family by her side. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her, and whispered "come with me". With tearful eyes we watched her, we watched her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Altar Society and the Thursday Bingo group. Also, a member of St. Stephen Martyr's Tuesday Tripoly group and Catholic Golden Age. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Ecken in 1986; her parents, Henry and Mildred Jenne; and her first grandchild, Eileen Patricia Ecken. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Donald (Charlotte McGavic), Ronald (Mary), David Patrick (Robin), Debra Kennedy (Richard) and Cynthia Webb (Ronald); 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Anthony Jenne (Pat) and Charles Jenne (Sue); and her baby sister, Judith Geier (Bill). Her funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas More, 6105 So. Third St. with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-8 p.m. Sunday at J. E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Dr. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Thomas More's Project Hope Food Pantry.
