"Mrs. Mary J. Dickens. Littleton, N.C. Mrs. Mary Jenkins Dickens, 78, widow of Dalton G. Dickens, a longtime chairman of the Halifax missioners, died Saturday morning after an extended illness. She was born and raised in Rochelle Cove in Littleton and was one of 11 children of the late William Henry and Fannie Wilson Jenkins. Mrs. Dickens was active in community and church affairs before her death. Funeral services will be held at the Weaver's Chapel, United Methodist Church in Littleton, of which she was a life-long member. The Rev. Clarence R. Breedin Jr., pastor of the church, will conduct services, which begin at 4 p.m. with burial to follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery. Surviving are one son, Lloyd E. Dickens of Littleton; two brothers, Jesse R. Jenkins, and W. Henry Jenkins, both of Littleton; six sisters, Mrs. Leonard Walker, Mrs. F. Murt Shearin, both of Littleton, Mrs. Saul J. Harris, Mrs. Harry Haniels and Mrs. Woodrow Davis, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Mrs. Grady Taylor of Branchville, Va.; and three grandchildren."
