Maxine Jeffries, third child of Thomas and Maude Jeffries, was born Sept. 4, 1913 in rural Russell, Iowa and passed away Feb. 20, 2001 at the age of 87.
She graduated from Russell High School in 1929.
On April 22, 1934 Maxine was united in marriage to Melvin Otto Brown in Russell, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Barbara Brown Eubank of Ankeny, Bonnie Brown Ellis of West Des Moines, and Dennis Brown of West Des Moines.
Maxine and Melvin spent most of their life in Chariton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Hoy, Verle and Jack, and her husband, Melvin, on Aug. 21, 1992.
Surviving are her three children, Barb and husband Gary; Bonnie and husband Mitch; and Dennis and wife Marcia; grandchildren, Marsha Eubank, Cheryl Stupka, John Eubank and wife Carol, Trevor Ellis and wife Amy, Michelle Ellis, and Stacey Brown; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Ashley Stupka, Luke and Joshua Eubank, and Samantha and Nicholas Ellis; two sisters, Betty Fitzhugh and Phyllis Dunshee.
Maxine was a longtime member of the Chariton United Methodist Church, PEO, Chariton Golf and Country Club, and many card clubs and civic organizations.
Her smile and positive attitude were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Gary DeGeest officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
