Martha Ruth Jeffers Shoemaker, 57, of Helenwood, died January 5, 2002, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida. Born in Oneida, August 24, 1944, she was preceded in death by her parents, Chimp and Mammie McCart Jeffers; her husband, Jimmy Shoemaker; one sister, Faye Settles; and three brothers, Gene Jeffers, Bill Jeffers, and Kenneth Jeffers. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Mountain View Baptist Church. She is survived by two children: Eddie Shoemaker of Oneida, and Kimberly Newport and husband, James, of Elgin; four grandchildren, one sister, Anna Sneed of Huntsville; two brothers, Johnny Jeffers and wife, Linda, of Oneida, and Joe Jeffers and wife, Mary Ann, of San Antonio, Tex.; special friends, Velta and Allen Shoemaker, and numerous friends at Tennier Ind.; and a host of other relatives. Funeral service was conducted January 8, 2001, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Wilkerson officiating. Music was provided by the Goad family.
