Obituary, The Norman Transcript, November 8, 2006 Neva Beatrice Jarboe, 83, of Norman, died Tuesday, November 7, at Norman Regional Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday at First Baptist Church in Lexington with the Revs. Bill Kennedy, James Anderson and Wayne Jarboe officiating. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mrs. Jarboe was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Lexington, to Obie and Bertha (Hollowell) Coleman. The sixth of 11 children, she grew up and finished high school in Lexington. She married Robert M. Jarboe on January 18, 1941, in Noble. Together they lived and farmed in Lexington and the surrounding area. In the mid 1940s, she began a long career as a cashier at First State Bank in Lexington. Later she also worked at First National Bank in Norman, but retired in 1988 from First State Bank in Lexington. Their first daughter, Pam, was born in 1949. The Jarboes moved to Norman in 1952 where their second daughter, Marla, was born in 1960. Mrs. Jarboe's life revolved around her home and family, they said, her church family, and other avenues of service to people. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work in the gift shop at Norman Regional Hospital over a period of 12 years from 1989 to 2001. Family said Mrs. Jarboe served the Lord joyfully and faithfully for many years as treasurer at Brookhaven Baptist Church in Norman, where she was a member for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Jarboe was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters, Cecil Garner, Ruby Sasser, Virgie Coles, Opal Watkins and Freda Coleman; and two brothers, Nolan Coleman and Reford Coleman. Survivors include two daughters, Pam Kennedy and husband Bill of Norman and Marla Mann of Norman; one sister, Margie Jones of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Doyle Coleman of Norman and Caylon Coleman of Oklahoma City; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. "Neva was many things to many people, daughter, sister, wife, mother, coworker, fellow church member and friend," family said. "Most important was her relationship with God. She was a Christian, a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. We grieve her loss, and we miss her very much. Life will always be different without her, but our grief is tempered by the sure hope we have that God's promise is true -- she is absent from the body and present with the Lord. What a joyful reunion in heaven she is having with her husband of 64 years, their parents, siblings and many other dear friends and family."
