WESTPORT — Janis G. Goff, 79, of Westport passed away Oct. 18, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Westport, N.Y., Dec. 30, 1928, the daughter of John and Ruth Gough.
Janis was salutatorian of the class of 1946 and she was deputy clerk of the Essex County Board of Supervisors for many years. She was a past member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed the great Adirondack Mountains and especially her summers on Lincoln Pond. Her family was the center of her world and she enjoyed Sunday dinners together. She was a dedicated and loving wife to Robert Goff Sr., who predeceased her on May 13, 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Drinkwine and husband Leo of Willsboro; her son, Gary Goff and wife Tina of Newfield, N.Y.; daughter, Gwen Carpenter and fiancé Chip Pierce; and Robert R. Goff Jr. and wife Valorie, all from Westport, N.Y. Valorie was her caretaker for her last months. Janis had 11 grandchildren: Kenny and Amanda Sweatt, Korey and Brandy Sweatt, Carrie and Todd Pierson, Cheryl Drinkwine and Jeremy Vanderpool, Samantha, Gerra and Addison Goff, Richard Carpenter Jr., Mallery DeZalia, Michelynn and David Salinas, Robert Goff III and girlfriend Candy Conley. There are 10 great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her brother, Olon Gough of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; and her sister, Merrice Wyant of Elizabethtown.
She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, William Gough; a sister Merle Walker; and a loving Brittany Spaniel named Meigs. She was also predeceased by a special brother and sister-in-law, Richard J. and Mary L. Goff.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a celebration of her life Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at the home of Robert and Valorie Goff, 175 Goff Road, Westport, N.Y., from 3 to 5 p.m., with a memorial service at 4 p.m.
W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.
