Lacy James Childers, 95, of Melrose, FL, passed away on April 21, 2011.
He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grand-father, brother and friend to many.
Lacy is survived by his son, Curtis J. Childers of Melrose; 2 grand-children, Jason Childers of Tampa and Jessica Dunlap of Riverview; and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Empress, Brooks County, Georgia, April 30, 1916, and moved to Tampa in 1933, where he graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1936. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Seaboard Coast Line Railroad as an engineer after 40 plus years. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.
Lacy was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ferrell Childers; wife, Eloise Childers; and 6 brothers and sisters.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be laid to rest at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Tampa, with a graveside service at 2 p.m. April 27, 2012, with Jesse Stevens officiating, under the care of Moring Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to Haven Hospice, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177.
