James Jerome Jacoby, 95, of Lecanto, FL, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, in Brentwood Health Center. Born February 21, 1915, in Peekskill, NY, son of the late Harry and Maude (Heleker) Jacoby. He was a retired security guard and moved to Florida from Montrose, NY, 15 years ago.
While serving our country in the Army during WWII, he became the Band Leader of the Army Band, serving as leader for 5 years. James was an accomplished sportsman, musician, composer, and was the conductor of the Cortland Concert Band for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge
Survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene H. (Borecky) Jacoby, of Lecanto; sons, Jay (Lorrain) Jacoby of Crystal River, FL, and Jon (Patty) Jacoby of Montrose, NY; daughter Jeri (Gary) Brown of Peeksville, NY; 7 grandchildren, Jill, Jeff, Jerrod, Christopher, Michael, Jeffrey, Jason; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 9, at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa Springs, with Fr. Ryszard Stradomski officiating.
