First Lieutenant Jackson was a co-pilot of a B-26B Invader bomber during the Korean War. Immediately after take off from the Pusan Airbase (K-9), his aircraft crashed. There were no survivors.

Twenty-seven Decatur High School students laid a wreath at the Korean Memorial on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 9:30 A.M. in honor of First Lieutenant Charles Perry Jackson, DHS Class of 1945, Second Lieutenant Edward Rutledge Ravenel, Class of 1943 and Gene S. Blough, Class of 1948.
