Enlisted on 8/15/1861 at Moore County, NC, he was mustered into "H" Co. NC 30th Infantry as a 4th Corporal.
Promoted to Sergt 2/15/1862.
Promoted to 2nd Lieut 5/1/1862.
Wounded 7/1/1863 Gettysburg, PA.
Wounded 5/12/1864 in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA.; he died of wounds.

The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina, in October, 1861. The men were raised in the following counties: Sampson, Warren, Brunswick, Wake, Nash, Granville, Duplin, Edgecombe, Moore, and Mecklenburg.
