Birth: Apr. 26, 1917
Weber County
Utah, USA
Death: Jun. 6, 2011

Florence Jackson Boulton, age 94, of St. George, Utah passed away peacefully on June 6, 2011.

She was born April 26, 1917 in Ogden, Utah, to Verna Cordon and Frank W. Jackson. Most of her childhood was spent in Ogden and Logan, Utah. Grandma Flo, as she was affectionately called by everyone, will be missed and remembered. She spent her last few years living at the Beehive Home and had many friends there.

She married her beloved husband, Howard (Bud) C. Boulton on October 14, 1940, in Everett, Washington, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. As a family, living in California and Utah, we had the most incredible experiences and adventures. Mom was always finding new ways to spend vacations and educate us kids at the same time. One summer the family went camping throughout California visiting all 21 of the old Franciscan missions.

Bud was a Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America and the family had many fond memories of spending summers at Boy Scout Camps. It was a wonderful life, full of family and joy. Bud passed away in January of 1991, in Salt Lake City, and shortly thereafter, Flo moved to St. George, Utah, where she has lived since then.

Grandma Flo took great pride in her family and always enjoyed having everyone over to her home for Sunday dinners. Bud would cook, but Flo always made the pies. She was adventurous, and early in her life made several rafting trips down the Colorado River with other couples.

After Bud retired, he and Flo served an LDS mission to Ireland. Upon their return, they served as LDS Chaplains at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. They spent many summers there guiding and mentoring young people from all over the United States.

Flo was the epitome of the perfect school teacher. She taught for over 50 years and after she retired, continued to substitute teach in Washington County. She loved education and received her Masters degree in Special Education and continued to take classes for years. Many times she would have adults come up to her and tell her that she was their favorite teacher. One year she was named Best Teacher for the entire State of Utah. One of the saddest days in her life was when she could no longer teach due to her loss of eyesight.

She will always be remembered for her limitless energy and her desire to be helpful and serve. She held many positions of leadership in the LDS Church. Up to her dying day, Grandma Flo would always ask everyone what she could do for them today. She loved to be involved and busy and could never sit still for very long.

She was a volunteer for the Huntsman World Senior Games for many years and her sewing skills can still be seen annually as she made most of the beautiful flags used for the Opening Ceremonies.

At the age of 80, she showed everyone that she still had spunk and on her birthday she climbed a huge mulberry tree! She also loved to travel as she grew older, she missed not being able to go hiking or traveling to new places.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, and two sisters, Rae Ostler and Arlene Ficklin.

She is survived by her children, Kathie Thayne (Gary), Teri Boulter (Bill), Chuck Boulton (Leslie) and Karen Hilton Waldon (Clarke); 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her wonderful brother, Frank C. Jackson (Betty).

The family would like to thank the incredible and dedicated staff at the Beehive Home for their care and help the last days of Granma Flo's life. They helped her to maintain her independence and dignity as she grew older. She was truly a legend and amazing lady and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held in Salt Lake City on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 1:00pm at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Friends may visit from 11:30am until 12:30pm prior to the services and interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
