Death: Feb., 1875
Yancy Mills

Phillip Jackson was born to parents; Wm. P. & Jane "Jinny" (Sally) Jackson. Phillip's first wife was Catherine "Kate" Susan (Baker) Jackson who is buried where she died about 1834 in Washington Co. Mo.,likely at or near their old homestead. Phillip re-married shortly afterwards to Catharine "Katie" (Hamilton) in 1836. Phillip and family moved to the Edgar Springs area in 1854 where he purchased 463 acres. After eventually accumulating 600 acres there, Phillip sold this land and moved a few miles North in 1857 to the Yancey area purchasing the grist mill and farm land near the mill. In the Civil War, Phillip Jackson served as Captain under Col. Schnable of the 6th Div. Mo. State Guards. In September 1861, Jackson was captured in the skirmish of Douglas Prairie, Gasconade Co. Mo. He was released under oath in December 1861. Although nothing can be proven, it is highly suspected of our family that my ancestor Phillip Jackson is buried on the hill just above where his home stood at the time of his death. Some old family lore has Phillip dying and being buried at Pillman's Store of the old Spring Creek community just inside the Pulaski county line. Even if he died there.. and speculating he was alone, I would think his body would have been brought home for burial. The Rolla Express newspaper dated March 4, 1875 reported that Phillip "died at his residence near Yancy Mills." Unless new evidence comes to light,I myself lean heavily on Phillip being buried at Yancey cemetery, thus this being my submittal.
