Anita is survived by two daughters, Jane Nichols and Candi (John) Heap. She has three granddaughters, Amy (Scott) Ruter, Julia (David) Carter and Paula (Brad) Barton. She also has six great-grandchildren, Payton and Addison Ruter, David and Kennedy Carter and Kylie and Mya Barton. She has one brother, Karl (Phyllis) Ives.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Gibson, on July 10, 2009 and a sister, Harriet Jane Bruning.
She graduated from Wapella High School in 1939 and later graduated from Brown's Business College in Decatur, IL. She was employed by DeWitt County Farm Bureau and Insurance Company.
She married Virgil W. Gibson; they had 67 wonderful years together. They were the co-owners of Gibson Ace Hardware and worked side by side in the business for 40 years. After their retirement, they spent their winters in Bonita Springs, FL.
Anita was a member of the Wapella Christian Church and later attended the First Christian Church of Clinton. She was also a member of the Home Extension and took antique classes through Richland Community College. She was a member of the DeWitt County Museum, Clinton Country Club, American Legion Auxiliary and B.P.W. Anita was richly blessed by the Lord with excellent health throughout her long life, showing her first decline a few years ago
Anita was a generous and thoughtful woman, often reaching out to those in need of an encouraging word. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and cared deeply for her family and friends.
