Mrs. Lela Downing

Sherman - Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Downing, 85, who died Tuesday afternoon in a Sherman nursing home, were held today at 2:30 p.m. at the Dannel-Horton Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman, conducted by Dr. Tom Brandon and assisted by Rev. Larry Rice. Burial was in Fannin Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Downing was born on March 5, 1897 in Terrell to James and Sara Jenkins Isaacs. She married Sam Downing, who preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1974, on Dec. 11, 1915 in Windom. She attended Flag Springs schools. They moved from Bonham to Sherman in 1958. She was a member of Woodman Circle, Tripel L. Club and the First Baptist Church.

Survivors are one son, Neil Downing, Bonham; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Stapp, San Angelo, Mrs. Billye Hopkins, Lubbock, Mrs. Ruth Wright, Midland; four brothers, Edward Isaacs, Denison, Hoyt Isaacs, Dallas, Clyde Isaacs, Ventura, Calif., Elmer Isaacs, Sherman; three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Jumper, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Lura Munger, Bonham, Mrs. Faye Culberson, Melissa; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
