Donald F. Irving, 78, 418 Ashland Ave., died Wednesday afternoon at Ball Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in St. Johns, Mich., he was the son of Fred and Minnie Smith Irving and after moving to Muncie was graduated from high school at Muncie Normal Institute. During World War I he served in the United States Army.
Mr. Irving spent many years in the shoe business. At the time of his retirement about 10 years ago, he had operated his own business, Irving's Booterie, a ladies' shoe store located in the 200 block South Mulberry for 35 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and its Come and See Bible Class and Delaware Post 19, American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Susie, a retired Muncie Community School teacher; a son, Dr. Bruce L. Irving; a daughter, Mrs. T. George (Ann) Shaw, both of Marshall, Mich.; five grandchildren, Susan Shipp, Indianapolis, and Brenda Shipp, Leslie Irving, Sandra Irving, and Douglas Irving, all of Marshall, Mich.; and a niece, Mrs. John (Eleanor) Sculati, Midland, Mich.
Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Meeks Mortuary, where friends may call one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
