Gladys L. Bitner
MURPHYSBORO - Gladys L. Bitner, 92, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Easton officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to First Lutheran Church of Murphysboro.
Gladys was born Nov. 27, 1914, in Jackson County, to Leonard T. Imhoff and Margaret (Reichrath) Imhoff.
She was a homemaker and had worked at the former Brown Shoe Factory in Murphysboro. Later she worked at area restaurants and then worked at the Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro. She was an outdoor person, who loved flowers and being out in the yard.
Mrs. Bitner was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro.
She married Arthur Bitner on Nov. 3, 1933, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1988.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Homer Richards of Murphysboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Arlene Bitner of Murphysboro; one daughter-in-law, Judy Bitner of Murphysboro; six grandchildren, Bob Richards, Patricia Thompson, Daniel Bitner, Mary Cross, Rebecca Clover and Michael Guetersloh; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Crowell of Du Quoin; several nieces and nephews; and one special friend and caregiver, Helen Russell of Murphysboro.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Bitner; three brothers; two sisters; and her parents.
