Son of James Caleb Imes and Augusta Elvira (Brown) Imes of Old Milton Co., Georgia, he married Mary Elizabeth Hall on April 10, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia. Together they had two children: Adrienne Elizabeth Imes and Walter Greer Imes Jr. Walter was a Station Manager for the U.S. Postal Service in Atlanta, Georgia and after 42 years with them he and Elizabeth retired to Cape Coral, Florida June 1972. A devout Baptist, Walter was active in his church for many years including serving as a Deacon at the Kirkwood Baptist church in Atlanta followed by membership at the Rainbow Park Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia and the First Baptist Church of Cape Coral, FL. At the time of his death he lived in a nursing home in Longwood, Florida after being bed-ridden for 4 years due to crippling arthritis. Buried in his Masonic apron, he had a Masonic graveside service with members of the local South Seminole County group in attendance. Walter belonged to Doric Lodge No. 548 F & A.M., Lithonia, Georgia and was a Past Master and Emeritus 50 year member (actually active for 56 years). He was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, Valley of Atlanta; Orient of Georgia. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral and the Cape Coral Shrine Club.
Walter served his country as a Private in the US Marine Corps during World War I between 24 Oct. 1918 and 30 Aug 1919 onboard ships in Parris Island, SC, Philadelphia, PA & Pensacola, Florida.
