Hayako Ikeda was born on December 8, 1913 in Orange County, California, and passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2006 in Lodi, California. During World War II, she and her children (along with more than 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry) were wrongfully deprived of their rights and citizens and were incarcerated, first at Santa Anita Assembly Center, then at Jerome and Rohwer, Arkansas, and finally at the Tule Lake Relocation/Segregation Center near the California/Oregon border. After the family's release in early 1946, they moved to Lodi where the family owned and operated the 3 Aces Fish Market in downtown Lodi. In 1953, she and her husband settled in Palo Alto, California. In 1995, she returned to Lodi where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kameichi, in 1976, and by three siblings. She is survived by her children Robert, Sumiko, Shizuka (Margaret), and Noby. Also survived by six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; an elder sister, Masako Ishihara; a younger brother, Kaichiro Yuoka; and numerous nieces and nephews in Japan and the United States.

Inurnment at Cherokee Memorial Park. Memorial Services were held Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the Nichiren Buddhist Temple, 3570 Mona Way, San Jose, California.
