FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Mrs. Julia Mae Hyman Lockhart will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, September 9, 2013 at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Florence. Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery. She died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at her residence after an illness.

Julia was born on November 12, 1927 in Florence, SC to George and Ella Mae Hyman. She attended the public schools of Florence County and was formerly employed with both Wentworth and Oneida manufacturing companies. Sister Lockhart was a faithful member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and served faithfully on many ministries until her health declined.

In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Walter Daniel Lockhart; a grandson, Nathaniel "Cupid" Baggett; three siblings, Leonard Brown, Ella Mae Greene, and Margaret Williams.

Survivors are: her children, Bessie M. (David) Williams, Vernice L. James, Virginia (Marion) Newman, Nathaniel (Doris) Lockhart, Julie Holt, and Shusheila Lockhart; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ann Williams, Lottie Singleton, and Shirley Echols; a sister-in-law, Daisy Mae Johnson; a brother-in-law, George Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be from 2:00 - 6:00 this evening at the funeral home. The family is receiving friends at the home, 122 E. Sam Harrell Rd., Florence. Memorial and Condolence messages may be mailed to Ideal Funeral Parlor, 106 E. Darlington Street, Florence, SC 29506.
