Marcella Alverson, age 93, of Madison, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Golden Living Center, Madison.
Marcella Sylvia Hyland, born March 5, 1919 in Madison, S.D. to Ed and Idella (Hexom) Hyland. Marcella attended country school in Hyland school district until 8th grade. She graduated from Madison High School in 1937. Marcella enrolled in General Beadle State Teachers college and graduated in 1939. She taught school in Hyland school district for 3 years.
Marcella married John M. Meyer on December 12, 1942 at Napolean, OH. He passed away on May 26, 1963. She then married Bernard M. Alverson August 6th, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran church, Madison. He passed away on October 16th, 1990. She was a bookkeeper for veterinarians Dr. Nold and Dr. Harris for 11 years. She then was a bookkeeper for F & M Co-op Oil for 10 years. Marcella lived her entire life in Lake County and was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, WELCA, circles, and quilting. She belonged to the Jolly Eight Card Club, 8 & 40 Salon #15 of Madison, American Legion Auxiliary of Wentworth and Madison VFW.
Survivors include 3 children, Gloria (Floyd) Ebdrup of Wentworth, Lois (Eugene) Panning of Hamburg, MN and David (Mindee) Meyer of Madison, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one sister Darlene Jacobson of Norwood, MN.
Marcella is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a son Edwin Meyer.
