Evelyn Marie (Hyde) Gatlin is the daughter of Hollis Delbert and Nellis Bernice (Smith) Hyde. She graduated from Memphis, Scotland County, Missouri, High School in 1949 and moved to California that fall. She married WIlliam Albert "Willie" Gatlin on July 21, 1957. The couple remained in California and settled in San Mateo County in the San Francisco Bay area. They had one child, Robin Denise. Evelyn died suddenly in 1964 at age 32. Her sister Mary Jean (Hyde) Drummond and her husband Harold took Eveylyn's 4 1/2 year old daughter Robin into their home and raised her as their own.
