Matilda Catherine Bond, 76 of Barren Springs, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at her home. Matilda Catherine Hyatt was born June 1, 1938 in Star City, WV to William Edgar Hyatt & Beatrice Vivian Bennett. She later moved to Johnstown, PA and was raised with her mother & step father, George Groman as Matilda C. Groman. Preceding her in death was her mother, father, and one child, Wesley Garland Bond. Survivors include her husband, Garland L. Bond, whom she married on May 4, 1957 in Washington DC; her children, Victoria Lee Bond Barb, Carolyn Ann Bond Noteman, Karen Michele Bond Reeves, Garland A. Bond, II; sons-in-law, Lowell Barb and Randy Reeves; grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremy Barb, Jeremy's wife, Kristin and great grandchildren, Aeden and Mara Barb; sisters, Denise Groman, Mamie Groman, and Martha Groman; and brother, Johnny Groman. Cathy attended and graduated from Johnstown Catholic High School and worked at the Pentagon in Washington DC for the then Secretary Quarles. Cathy was very smart and held some very good secretarial jobs. She was also a wonderful mother and homemaker and will be sadly missed by her husband, the children, the grandchildren, the great grandchildren, and all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Michael Shockley officiating. Burial will follow in the G.A. Bond Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 till 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
