James "Jim" Wesley Huyck, 72, a beloved math teacher and coach of Mullan, passed away August 7, 2012 at his home of Mullan.
He was born January 20, 1940 at Andover, South Dakota; Jim was the son of Wesley and Shirley (McKane) Huyck.
Jim attended and graduated from the Andover High School of Andover, South Dakota in 1959. He then attended The Black Hills of South Dakota College and graduated with a bachelors degree in mathematics. He furthered his education and received his masters degree in mathematics from the University of Idaho.
Jim married Sherrie Hieb on April 13, 1962 at Redfield, South Dakota. Jim, Sherrie and family moved to the Silver Valley in May of 1968 from South Dakota.
Jim started his teaching for the Mullan School District in 1968 as a math teacher. He was dedicated to all of his students, family and friends. Jim was extremely passionate about coaching his basketball teams and was very proud of their performance and team work. Even upon his retirement in 2000, Jim was committed to the Mullan School District Athletic programs, volunteering to keep books for all the home basketball games. Jim was happy to know that he helped in forming a foundation for his students in their careers. He took a special interest in teaching gun safety, reloading and participating in dynamite shoots with many of his students.
Jim was a member of the NRA and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved and enjoyed his family, shooting, reloading, coaching, motorcycling, basketball, all sports and four-wheeling.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sherrie Huyck, of the family home of Mullan, Idaho; and one daughter, Novalee Huyck, of Moscow, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James Wesley Huyck, Jr.
Cremation was held and A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mullan Athletic Pavilion of Mullan, Idaho. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Morning Club of Mullan following services.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Mullan High School Athletic Department, P.O. Box 71, Mullan, Idaho 83846.
