Effie Mae Hussey was the daughter of Alexander Hamilton Hussey and Catherine Ann Shively. Her Hussey ancestors were from the State of Maine. Her Shively ancestors were pioneer settlers in Shively, Jefferson County, Kentucky before it became a state in 1792.
Effie Mae was born on September 12, 1862 in Shively, Jefferson County, Kentucky. She fell and broke her left arm when she was six. It became infected and was amputated above the elbow. According to family tradition it was buried in the cemetery in Shively with a marker stating "Effie's Arm." She managed to do all things with her right hand and what was left of her left arm. She married and had 7 children and 11 grandchildren. Her children were: Claude Earl, Harry Malcolm, Bernice Clyde, Blanche Moore, Olga Leah, Robert Byron and Clarence Dale. Harry and Robert both died before their 2nd birthdays.
William and Effie Mae lived in Grayson County, Kentucky at the time of their marriage about 1885. He worked for her father in the lumber business until they moved to Texas in 1914 in search of lumber opportunities in several East Texas locations. They were living in Mineola, Wood County, Texas with their oldest son Claude, when Effie died after a stroke on August 28, 1929. Will followed her in death on May 9, 1932. They were both buried in the Mineola City Cemetery. Their son Claude Earl and second wife Fannie Lee Garner Bozarth and their daughter Bernice Munn and her second husband J. O. Munn are also buried in this cemetery.
