R. H. Hurlbutt, one of the oldest settlers of Mills county died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. T. Wilkins where he made his home for some years. Death was due to ailments incident to old age. He was in his 88th year. Deceased had lived in Mills county 52 years. He leaves, besides his aged wife, four children to mourn his death: Mrs. James Goodfellow of Ashland NE; M. W. Hurlbutt, Mrs. A. T. Wilkins and R. W. Hurlbutt of Tabor. Besides these are many grandchildren and other relatives. The funeral services will be held at the late home on Friday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferner. Interment in Tabor cemetery.

Robert H. Hurlbutt, The funeral of Robert H. Hurlbutt whose death was briefly mentioned in the Beacon last week was held Friday afternoon. Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferner; and interment was made in Tabor cemetery. Robert H. Hurlbutt was born at Pittsburgh PA 3 May 1820; resided there with his parents until the summer of 1835, when they moved to Clarksfield, Huron county, OH. February 29, 1844, he married Arvilla Mead, and in 1856 they loaded their effects in a "prairie schooner", in which they drove across the country with their two young children, Malber W. and Alice M., arriving in Tabor, 1 July 1856, and settling on the raw prairie; where their present residence now stands. Two children were afterward born to them in Iowa; Robert W. and Eunice M. He is survived by 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He joined the Congregational church early in life at Clarksfield OH, and with his wife brought letters to the Tabor church, which they joined in 1856. He was a very close friend of Father John Todd, who was instrumental in inducing him to move here from Ohio 52 years ago. He has resided here continuously until his death, which took place at 6 a.m., 11 June 1908 at the age of 88y 1m 8d.
