Barbara Mae Huntington was born August 4, 1925 in Sheffield, Alabama to James and Sarah Mae Hillis. She graduated from Lenoir City High School Lenoir,
Tennessee in 1943. Barbara and her first husband Ernest Leonhardt operated a Ranch in the Quincy, CA area from the early 1950s to the late 1960s. They also owned and
operated a hotel in Quincy for a few years.
Barbara enjoyed traveling, especially when she was able to hunt big game in many foreign countries with her second husband Fred Huntington. They traveled extensively all over the world.
She was a member of the Soroptimist Club of Quincy, CA for 9 years; serving as President from 1961 1962.Her other memberships include, Omega Nu Sorority since 1971 in Oroville, CA.Skikar Safari Club International. Vice President, Butte County Library Foundation for 3 years, and the First Ladies Club for 4 years. The First Ladies Club was a group of 75 ladies from various states in the U.S. who raised funds for a new exhibit in the new extension of the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
Barbara Mae Huntington is survived by 2 sons, Eric Glenn Leonhardt of San Leandro, CA. and Richard Kris Leonhardt of Quincy,CA; her step-daughter Linda Louise Leonhardt and step-son Daniel Leonhardt both of Quincy, CA. Grandmother
of 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her brother, Preston E. Hillis of McMinnville, TN; and her niece Peggy H. Bailey of Quincy, CA.
Her Farewell . . .
Her greatest joy in life was to be with and entertain her family and friends.A Gathering in honor of Barbara will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 4p.m. to 6 p.m. at her home in Oroville.
