Gayle Boatman, 79, of Idaho Falls, died Nov. 10, 2010, at her home in Idaho Falls after a brave battle with cancer.
Gayle Boatman was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Heman, Idaho, to Murray and Birdie Marie Hunter. She was one of 10 children and grew up in the farming community of Kilgore, Idaho. As a young girl, she helped on the family farm and with the housework and many of the farming chores.
Some happy memories she had were fishing in the creeks in Kilgore, community gatherings, rodeos, travel via sleigh and horse team and braving the winters, which were both exciting and difficult. She recalled not having running water or lights, doctors who used to travel around giving injections and the old Kilgore Schoolhouse, consisting of two rooms and one small gym.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and was known for her beautiful gardens and abundant produce.
Gayle attended high school in Shelley, Spencer and then Clark County Community High School in Dubois, and graduated in 1949.
She married Robert George Boatman on Nov. 26, 1954 in Arco, Idaho. They made their home in the Spencer area. Robert Boatman died Dec. 24, 1984. Gayle made her home in Idaho Falls after that time.
The Murray Hunter family resided in Kilgore until all the children were raised. She helped run Boatman's Lodge in Spencer and completed cosmetology school later in Idaho Falls.
Gayle is survived by her sisters, Lily, Ruth, Joan, Birdie and Zola; one brother, Richard Hunter; two sons, Robert (Linda) Murray, of Fargo, North Dakota, and Jerry R., of Idaho Falls; six grandchildren, Jenny (Jeff) Beacham, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Robin (Devon) Wolfe, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Robert G.
