Rites Held Wednesday For Pioneer Resident
Services were held Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Bliss, 86, at the New Plymouth Baptist church. Bedridden for seven years, Mrs. Bliss died Saturday after a brief illness. The Rev. Garner officiated and interment was in Parkview cemetery with the Peterson-Foster funeral home in charge.
Emma Elizabeth Hunter was born at Fennimore, Wis., April 30, 1853 and in 1880 was married to Alfred H. Bliss. She joined the United Brethren church at Fennimore at the age of 16. After making their home for several years in the Wisconsin north woods the family moved to Redington, Nebraska. After three years they found farming conditions unfavorable and moved in a covered wagon to Eaton, Colorado, where they resided 13 years. In August, 1904, they arrived in Weiser and a month later moved to New Plymouth where they have lived since.
Being in failing health, Mrs. Bliss took to her bed in 1932 and adapted herself to a new way of life, spending much of her time doing handwork for friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Ora Gilbert, who died Dec. 26, 1925, and her husband on October 30, 1926. surviving her are two sons, Floyd E. of Manteca, Calif., and G. R. of San Bernadino, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Alma Hull of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. Alice Barret of New Plymouth; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
