She was born February 13, 1942 in Chillicothe to the late William H. and Catherine E. Collopy Hamm. On August 12, 1971, she married her devoted husband, Thomas E. Hunter, who survives. Her brother, David Hartman Hamm, preceded her in death.
Karen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1960 and Ohio University in 1964. Karen taught first grade at Worthington School for 36 ½ years, and enjoyed every minute of being a teacher. She was a past member of the NEA, OEA, CEA, the Retired Teachers' Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was the head of the Ohio Reads Program in the Chillicothe City School System, in which she was able to recruit over 70 volunteers for the program. Karen worked as a tour guide at the Adena (Thomas Worthington) Mansion. She was a member of the AAUW and chaired the AAUW Book Sale for many years.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday, May 26, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 5-7 pm Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where a wake service will be held at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or St. Mary Church, Restoration Project, 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
