George Washington Hunter, 88, of Shreveport, died on June 2, 2002, while on a traditional family Colorado vacation holiday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2002 in Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Sonny Carter. Burial will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hunter was born in Hunter, Louisiana and was a descendant of the founders of that community.

He was a retired, self-employed building contractor, master gardener, farmer, wild game hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Hunter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Adolphus and Martha Johnston Hunter of Hunter, LA; and his siblings, Ashton, Laura, Vernelle, Ina-Pearl, J. H. "Bill" and Willie and their spouses.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine Ripley Hunter; four daughters, Mildred Hunter Decker, Janet Hunter Caldwell and husband, Wayne, Pamela Hunter Millhollon, Lou Anne Hunter Burns and husband, Robert; six grandchildren, Christopher, Craig, Christy, Roxanne, Brian and Julie and their spouses; 10 adoring great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Hunter was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
