Birth: Dec. 28, 1905
Utah County
Utah, USA
Death: Jan. 7, 1999, USA

Our beloved Ferne Gardner Hunter passed away on Jan. 7, 1999 at the age of 93.

Born Dec. 28, 1905, in Lehi, Utah, Ferne was the daughter of James Hamilton Gardner and Rhonda Priscilla Huffaker Gardner. She had four brothers and four sisters. Ferne attended both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, where she belonged to Alpha Chi Sorority. She graduated from the U in 1928 with honors and as a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

She taught English a few years at Murray High School and in Lyman, Wyoming, where she met her husband, Milton R. Hunter. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 30, 1931. After their marriage, they lived in Provo, UT; Berkeley, CA; Ferrin, UT; and Logan, UT. Milton then taught at the LDS Institute in Logan for many years. When Milton became a member of the First Council of Seventy in 1945, they made their home in Salt Lake City, UT. Ferne supported him for 30 years in this calling. During this time, she traveled throughout the world with her husband.
Ferne was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the church. For many years she was a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple and experienced great pleasure from that calling.

Ferne was a member of Authors Club, Dinorators, Chatabouts, and Solaro. She also belonged to an Avenues dinner group.

We greatly feel the loss of our sweet Mother and Grandmother and will miss her loving ways, her humor, and her gentility. She is an example and a strength to all who know her.

Ferne is survived by her six children, twenty-one grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; M. Reed (Mary Anne) Hunter, Margaret (Vance) Gritton, Lois Anne (Patrick) McGill, Linda Adams, Alison (Charles Koritz, and Michael Hunter.

She is also survived by many dear friends and relatives, who may pay their respects to this elect lady from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, Jan. 11, 1999, at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 South Temple, or preceding the funeral services from 10 to 11:45 a.m. on Tues. Jan. 12, at the Salt Lake 14th Ward, 142 W 200 North, where funeral services will be at 12 noon. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
